Do hip hop audiences appreaciate older rap music?

I know you guys listen to older stuff but most people listen to whats popular now.

This quote is from a hip hop website NBS

"Hip-hop, unlike other genres of music, isn鈥檛 as respectful toward its elders as it should be. While rock acts like Sting and Rolling Stones can tour decades after the heydays of their careers, the likes of LL Cool J and Nas are dismissed as irrelevant just for being having more years under their belt than their younger contemporaries."

Rappers like LL Cool J and Nas are talked about on a regular on here but the quote says they go unnoticed when they don't have new music out.

Do you Buy or Sell this comment disregarding hip hop fans on yahoo answers

whatever happened to tone loc????
the market is young and limited, so yes ! all music is appreciated except maybe country !
What happened to Heavy D, Afrika Bambaataa, Kool Moe Dee, and Salt-n-Pepa? or KRS-One? I think quotes right. I listen to LL's old stuff (first 7 albums), but he losing ambition to rap.
Not usually. It would all depend when you started liking Hip Hop and Rap. Compared to the music then and now, the music now is more liked, but their are some oldies out there! It would all depend...
yes as long as its not to weird
Younger audiences should appreciate old school rap because they are always sampling music from the 70's, 80's, and 90's anyway.
i love the old school hip hop as well as the new stuff :)
obviously........
i like old school and new school rap and hip hop
Well I don't know I've never heard of Nas or LL trying to go on tour recently or anything.. I know if either of em came to my hood the concert would sell out.. I lean more towards oldskool anyways.. Stuff I hear today I know I won't be bangin' next year where as I still bump Nas, LL, Tone Loc etc etc and I stll fell em at the same time..

The term hip hop (also spelled "hip-hop" or "hiphop") refers both to a musical (see hip hop music) and cultural genre or movement (hip hop culture) that was developed by African Americans and Latinos predominantly in urban communities over the last quarter-century. Since first emerging in New York City in the seventies, hip hop has grown to encompass not just rapping, but an entire lifestyle that consistently incorporates diverse elements of ethnicity, technology, art and urban life. There are four fundamental elements in hip hop: hip hop dance (notably breakdancing), urban inspired art (notably graffiti), DJing and MCing.

The FALL of hip hop?

Am i the only one who thinks hip hop is on the decline? Record sales ain't doin' what they used to. Used to be everybody could go platium. Now everybody struggling just to go gold. Hip Hop stores gettin' shut down. Us black people just seem to be dumbin' down. And 70% is talkin' bout who beefin' wit who. Since when did everyone care about who the artist was beefin' wit over which song they was makin? And the music is just stupid stuff too. Lib Gloss? Umbrellas? And boyz like Unk and Lil Jon don't do nothin' but yell and repeat. I blame corprate america. The same corprate ameryica that don't car how the music is, how many albulms you sell, or what your name is. The corprate america that only cares how they can get money and how many ringtones you stack up. Also file sharing sites like limewire just scam artist out of their work. If you can't pay for music then you don't need to be listening. Nas albulm hip-hop is dead isn"t true. Hip hop is alive but it's hurt. It just need an ambulance

The FALL of hip hop?music myspace

i agree with you so much hip hop is not officially dead yet, but it needs so much recovering, people who are making these songs with catchy phrases, need to make something new, that will tell others that hip hop is really dying, and maybe everybody else would notice that hip hop is dying and try to do something about it. And its not just the music, its the people, its the way women are degrading themselves, and a re being labled as hoe's, B*****, etc. If we could fix the music, then maybe that will help the people, because a lot of people look up to celebrities. But all i got to say is........Wake up people....Open your eyyes

The FALL of hip hop?emo myspace myspace.com

You would be a wonderful artist as you've described. "Us black people just seem to be dumbin' down"? You just epitomized the exact stereotype you were describing! Yeah, Hip Hop and R%26amp;B are declining, but it doesn't help that idiots are the ones performing!
hip hop is just not like it was

its garbage now it makes me sad
Blame MTV. They made both rap and rock music completely corrupt. I'm just glad there still talented rappers(underground obviously) out there even if they aren't popular.
Us black people are not dumbing down. We haven't gotten (collectively) any smarter than what we were in the 60's.

Hip hop is not dead. Study culture and the cultures of disenfranchised populations
I really do agree with your statement. Hip-Hop is on the decline, mainly in quality. There was a time when Hip-Hop was political and was there to make people think. Today, Hip-Hop is still sending a message... however it's a message of materialism, poor attempts to start a dance craze, lust, and the degradation of women. So say Hip-hop is hurt, but I say it is on life support and it won't be long until someone pulls the plug.
Record sales are low because of the availability of muic on the net.

While the quality of music has gone down overall, a few talented artists remain. But the popularity increases constantly.

The radio is not the medium for good rap music. Its all commercial and a load of BS.
im with u . used to be hip hop was awesome but now it has gotten lame , dont get me wrong there r still some artist that can make good music but overall i believe its on the decline
You can blame Dr. Dre and Eazy E for that.

Long gone are the days of Grandmaster Flash, Run-DMC, De la Soul, Beastie Boys, The Disco Three, etc.

What a shame.
Im in complete agreeance with you. The culprit is is cooperate America. Record executive who know nothing about the music they selling. I also have to blane some of these silly rapers too. They're only in the game for the bucks, and with that they conform. They think they not gonna sell if they don't beef, or talk about hoes and bitches. %26lt;%26lt;%26lt;+++ Right therem thats just the standard man, everybody is saying it, it just repetitive bullsh!t. That why i dont listen to mainstream that much i bump the underground joints.

As for the death of hip hop, as long as few know what it is about, and dont forget about it, it can only be overshadow, but i'll still listen to it because thats what is me.
You have to understand that there really is good music out there you just have to really look for it. Radio stations will just play the songs that will get them listeners and get them paid. they will play those songs over and over. Same with the television stations.

The music business, is just all about the bushinesses now, cuz now that that is all the artist cares about its that money, and not the music. So who in the industry cares about the music???

there are a few good artist you just have to really look for them.

NAS didn't really mean that its Dead, He just wanted to start a discussion on the present state of hip hop and where its going cuz its not going in the right direction.

We the listeners are kinda the blame for it. because its through us that the artists gets the money and the fame. So if we support those REAL artist and speak against the others.

If we all become a part of the solution rather than the problem. Hip hop will make a miraculous recovery. And it would demand respect from everybody as it once did.

Is hip hop culture really all race inclusive?

I heard so many people talk about hip hop culture and community accept people of all different backgrounds and it's all about the style and creativity

Some of these hip hop stations that are comprised of a majority of this certain one race of people seem to denigrate members of a certain other race of people....talking from other people on here from different areas, it seems that it isn't just in my area

so what happened to an all inclusive hip hop culture that focuses more on creativity and ability versus dividing the shiit according to race/ethnicity or whatever?
