there are VERY deep rifts in hip hop today, and it seems like there's a lot of hate today between hip hop fan's over genere's, regional styles, and basic types of hip hop...this would leave me to believe that hip hop is not a nation, (consider how much time we spend on here arguing over music)....and yet, (for me) today was one of those day's that really put that view in question....As most of us know, today marks the third anniversary of ODB's (rip) death, and I turned on my radio today to see if they would even mention it and *all day long* they were bangin song's like "Shimmy Shimmy Ya" and "brooklyn Zoo" (I even heard the ODB tribute song)..and It made me really stop and think.."At the end of the day: Is hip hop a nation?"

hip hop is a nation........just look at our nation, dont we have alot of rifts? arent there issues with different backgrounds and ethnicities over basic values, and traditions...the competition, the common love, the differences that link everyone together is what makes hip hop a nation..like any other nation, everyone will not always agree on everything

No. Though the splits are usually over turfs and crews, I think the true rift comes from Artistic Creativity and Street-Cred. Back in the day, of you were a good rapper, you were a good rapper and people dug you, from the hood to the suburbs. Now rappers are allowed to suck if people deem them street-credible. True artists have gone a whole different direction because of the pollution in the street-cred rap.

I think Hip-hop is a nation... I agree with 8-1... There are always going 2 be plenty of opinions %26amp; disagreements in our culture or should I say nation... Hip-hop is like the most diverse music genre %26amp; even most diverse cultures...
yea it a nation. but Limewire gonna kill it. many great rappers just dont give a **** about it anymore, because pricks on Limewire download it for free. Limewire are the Klansmen of not just Hip Hop, but all of music. Say I'm full of B.S. if you want, but Limewire and other cheap free downloading websites are the Hitler, Napoleon, and Bin Laden of music. Peace Yall.
