Has Corporate America dragged the word hip hop through the mud and ruined the entire meaning of it?

Just think of all that is being labeled "hip hop" that aint really hip hop... just to make money...

^^^^^^^that aint hip hop^^^^^^^^^^

Hip hop dance is a term that is always being used too...but unless you are doing some helicopters or backspins...you really aint hip hop dancing....

I just think that it is crazy that anything with a little bass and rhythm is considered hip hop...While completely ignoring...the true elements of hip hop...

What is your opinion?

i think that corporate america uses the term hip-hop loosely and completely ignores the 4 elements. they consider the 4 elements to be money, chains, hoes, and fashion. all of these so called rappers are turning into entrepeneurs and not focusing on their music. look at 50 cent, he has so much stuff going on with all that g-unit bullshit, he cant put out any good music (i never really liked his ish tho). you cant forget about jay-z, too, when he put out the black album, you could tell he put the time into it, and he shelled out a pretty good album (not a classic imo). after that, he had his "second coming" kingdom come, probably one of his wackest albums yet (lost ones is ill tho). i think as long as mc's are dedicated to their music, and not letting the nonsense of the media affect them, then i think they can be great.

I think it has. Look at how similar the music is and how much the songs talk about the same subjects.
to them...soulja boy is hip hop...gives them a easier target to blame
I Agree Corporate America Haz ****** Up Hip Hop Datz Why I Mostl Listen 2 Underground Hip Hop Harry Iz Not A Good Look

now its just a hook and bad rap skills
Yup, they have. It's not just hip hop, anything that makes money will be taken over by suits and sell outs.

I think the record buying public have to take a big part of the blame too - it's all about supply and demand. We live in a culture where you're made to feel like a leper if you don't keep up with what everyone else is doing. That needs to change.

People need to stop being so hypnotised by advertising and start using their brains. Everything has to be so instant now, that that mentality has even seeped into music. Now, instead of buying quality music that needs a bit of time and effort to get into it and fully appreciate it, people seem to just want a quick fix that they can dance to and sing along with. These people need to wake up and start using their brains.
Has Hip Hop chosen to go the commercial route for the money? Hip Hop has grown up into the billions around the world, every element has it's own commercial aspect. Corporate America was given a license to drag commercial hip hop through what ever mud it so choses. True Hip Hop -the culture- can't be found because those of us who know where it is and when it is aren't telling. Let them have Soulja Boy, or the Cha Cha slide for a McDonalds commercial. Underground is only found under the streets in the heart of every city where corporate america can't and for that matter won't venture. Ask Jay-Z, when the last time he went to and underground freestyle battle; Ok, now ask Murs, or Ant, or Little Brother, or Devin the Dude, for the matter ask Jadakiss or any member of the Wu.
yep hip hop started as a movement, now its a marketing scheme. but its the peoples fault for it. corporate america only sells what the people buy. for whatever reason, people like this minstrel show rap. if the people stop buying these ringtones and supporting these garbage rappers on the radio and videos, then it will change. but the full blame cant be on corporate america. its the peoples fault

To get by.. just to get by

Just to get by, just to get by'

..that third line says it all. Peace to Talib Kweli.
