Is Hip Hop(Rap)dead,done,since 2Pac died?

I was and have been a fan of hip hop my whole life but to me since the late 90's early 2000's there has not been good music out.It is all about I got money and women. Not to mention the horrible songs hip hop is making for dance clubs(hey bay-bay).All have become unoriginal to me and got me moving to alternative music for orginality..I guess it circles around, but Hip Hop def. misses 2pac(the greatest.)A true lyricist. What do you think?

Is Hip Hop(Rap)dead,done,since 2Pac died?myspace code

hip hop definetly took a blow when Pac died %26amp; right now is pretty much in shambles....as u said all tha club stuff is tha only stuff that seems 2 matter.......tha industry is all messed up %26amp; tha fans are partly to blame cuz there tha ones requesting this garbage singles %26amp; buyin those garbage albums.......................but no it's far from done....there's alot of good hip-hop left %26amp; still being made but no1 buys those albums....thats how u know hip-hop is dying but tha facts that these artists are still here show it's not totally dead...here's just a short list of lyricists still in tha rap game

Jay-Z

NaS

Common

Talib Kweli

Kanye West

Ghostface Killah

Freeway

Beanie Sigel

Mos Def

Wu-Tang Clan

Chamillionaire (I bet ur surprised but CHECK HIM OUT)

Eminem

Dr. Dre

lots more

Is Hip Hop(Rap)dead, done, since 2Pac died?love myspace myspace.comno, hip hop rap do not go downhill because 2 pac is dead hip hop is still go on now. hip hop will be the same the next year Report It

Yes, hip-hop.rap went downhill after Tupac left the scene.

Is Tupac dead ? Hmmmmm....one wonders
hip hop died long time ago.
no i dont think hip hop died...%26amp;%26amp; i dont think 2pac died either?

hm idk i may be wrong?
no,,hip hop became better,,bcos of ppl like lil wayne, kanye west,50 cent and so on,,if u noticed in the time of 2pac all the new hip hop artist were not recognised, itz bcos of the death 2pac,all these new artist came up and reshaped hip hop,,thats why i think hip hop aint dead.
No hip hop is not dead. Pac was not the definition of hip hop when he was alive. Yea he was good but the greatest? I don't think so. Hip hop was here before him and guess what? It's here after him too. And Do you really think that there weren't wack artist back in Pac's time? Think again. And as for your concern with the music out today, as punkass would say, The hip hop out today doesn't suck, you suck at listening to good hip hop.
He Wasnt The Only One Who Helped Change The Game. And Hip Hop Didnt Die. NEVER! U See Wu Tang Came Back Clean With Their New Album? And Wu Tang Is Here Forever. A Few Others Coming Out With New Sh*t Too. Blossom U Get Thumbs Down.
I have to agree with JRob. Hip Hop is far from dead and nobody was even asking the question until Nas brought it up and the Government tried to get rid of it by blaming Hip Hop for every negative thing that happens in the world. I think Nas helped though because once folks heard that, they worked harder on their music, kinda of like when a rapper responds to a diss record, they usually try to come with there best work. I feel folks always fall back to BIG and Pac as rap references, when like was said earlier, Hip Hop was great before and after them. To many folks hang from BIG and Pac and refer to them as the best (which I still disagree with, but I can't change anyone's opinion). I think rapper sometimes need to put more effort into their music, but at the end of the day Hip Hop is dead and I pray to God that it never will.

New Hip-hop better?

Do you think that the new hip hop songs were better than back in the 80's and 90's? NWA, Tupac, Biggie, etc... they were considered godfathers of hip-hop and now we got these young artist with weird azz dance moves and repeated lyrics. NWA didnt have dance moves and they were better than Soulja Fag. You think new hip-hop was better than the 80-90's?

New Hip-hop better?myspace quizzes

hellllsssss no!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! these "rappers" these days talk about nothing!!!!!!!!!!!! its soooo frustrating sometimes. i dont even listen 2 the radio nemore.

I can't call it I love the old school but I love the new chit too we have a alot 0f wack people bu they did too

"NWA didnt have dance moves"

correct me if im wrong, but isnt dancing a part of hip hop?there have always been dance records out, its just that alot of times they had thought provoking lyrics within the song, not just somethin to go with the dance
What kinda dumb question was that of course old skool is better than new skool they were the originators of hip-hop and you didnt have any of those lame rappers back den.

Now you got PLIES, Mike jones , yung bird what kinda crap music is this.
90's was the best more raw its kinda too popy right now with all these new dance moves comin
new hip hop sucks but old school was the best by far
i agree that overall rap back then was better, but check out rappers like ghostface killah, clipse, and madvillain. They arnt popular or on the radio, but they are really really good, their lyrics actually have meaning.
New hip-hop is not hip-hop. This **** that is being spewed out today is just embarrassing. Soulja Boy is a good example, "Pop" beat, with absolutely horrible lyrics. The stuff out there in the hip-hop section today doesnt compare in the least with the stuff of Tupac, Rakim, Dr. Dre, or even Eminem, Jay-Z, and Nas. So to say that new hip-hop is better is like saying new coke was better that coke classic.
You must be out of your mind!!!!
Better Back In The Day Now Days Hip Hop Is ******...But There Still Are A Couple Of Good Rappers....If You Wanna Hear A Good Lyricist Listen To Papoose
What kind of stupid asss question is that ??? Old school rap hip hop is much better then the shyt they call it today. Old rap like Coolio and Immortal technique and tupac has nothing on puzzy *** lil whyne or whatever the hell he calls himself, yes even 50 centzz. He gayyy, i dont care how many times he got shot, clearly it affecting his stupid asss head cause his rhymes are like the shyt we hear in Barney. Kanye is another cocky sonss of dawg. His lyrics are aitte i must admit.. but after that car crash he thinks he's the fuking reincarnation of jesus... Even jesus wasn't cocky about what he could do......

He needs to take a chill pilll
Albums recently have been terrible, the last albums i have heard that could even stand a chance against old school are

The Doctor's Advocate - The Game

King - T.I

I don't think hip hop will ever be the same though, let's just hope NaS and Jay-z still have plenty more books of rhymes eh?

well Jay-z/Biggie......XD

BUT there are still a few good lyricists around besides jay-z and nas......papoose, lloyd banks ummmm that's about it really -_-
my personal favorite era would be the early 90s. overall i think people tend to gravitate to whatever era they were in high school for.

overall i feel bad for kids today becuase there is much less balance and diversity among mainstream hip hop. but then again they have choices that i didn't growing up, being able to find artists online and use the internet as a tool to get new stuff to listen to.
Name four rappers from after 99 that will be around by next March.

If hip hop really does encourage violence and misogyny?

Does that mean that all the murderers and rapists in prison right now should have their sentences overturned on the grounds of diminished responsibility if they can prove they've listened to hip hop before they commited their crime?

I'm asking because I seem to get plenty of haters answering (not properly though) my questions about hip hop. So, I want to know, if you honestly believe that hip hop encourages violence, does that make the perpetrators of the crime innocent?

If hip hop really does encourage violence and misogyny?blocked myspace

good question i still don't get why people say that. do they think terrorists listen to Nas then go blowing people up, or maybe the police officers that beat up Rodney king just listened to some 2Pac. its crazy.

Hip Hop does not encourage violence. end of

If hip hop really does encourage violence and misogyny?girl myspace myspace.com

Hahaha you tell 'em Bonnie! Great question.
Encourages violence? no. i've yet to hear a song that says "it's cool to shoot the block up" or "youshould go catch a body today". i can't even recall a hip-hop song that says "i LIKE to kill"

Reflect violence? YES. as it reflects all the other all-to-common problems in poor communities. I am no psychic, but I believe that with the decrease of poverty and injustice, will come the decrease in violence.
I have listened to the type of songs to which you refer, have not felt the need to go out and rape or murder anyone as a result of this, have grown up to be a responsible, normal member of the public.

So, no. I don't believe they can claim anyhting more than being degenerate pieces of human waste, who, after perpetrating vile acts, got what they deserved.
Great Question and I like So-Since's answer.

I have been listening to 2 live crew and snoop since i was in elementary and i have never wanted to go out kill someone or slap a woman because a song says so.

If the gov't put money into the neighborhoods and improve the economy and the well being of the people who live in those situations and teach people that through hard work comes rewards then the US would be a better place. Rapping about the slums and killing in the streets would be an afterthought but the US is more interested in other stuff than their people dying in the streets.

Hip Hop is not to blame for anything because what a person says into a microphone has no bearing on what stupid people go out and do.

When Oprah and al Sharpton turned on hip hop and not Don Imus they made their own people the scapegoat and not the person(Imus) repsponsible for his actions. To blame hip hop for individual's actions is basically doing the same thing in my opinion.
I love hip hop especially gangsta rap and listen to it all the time. But never once have I listened to NWA, or Dre, or the Game, or anyone else and thought, "you know what? I think I want to kill somebody today!!" Hip hop is so big and I think they're using that as an excuse to try and throw hip hop under a bus. They want the youth to stop listening to it. But as long as rappers keep rapping I'm gonna keep listenin'. Thats just my opinion.
As someone who doesn't like rap or hip hop I wouldn't goes as far as saying it makes people crazy enough to murder someone. In America today we have a serious issue on our hands wanting to blame someone or something other than ourselves for horrific crimes. No I don't think rap, rock, video games, movies, and t.v. drive us to do things we shouldn't. Its the individuals who are to blame not big industries. BY THE WAY RAP SUCKS!!!
WHOA.............you know what I think so I am only gonna say that people do what they want.......no matter what...stop looking at other reasons to place blame EXCEPT on the person that did the crime. Life has choices, and either you are gonna choose the right ones or the wrong ones... so take your pick.

Although you are the only one who will have to live with the consequences, you need to realize there are others who will also suffer behind what you have DECIDED to do...people need to think before they act cause its a lot of useless crimec being committed....hip hop has nothing to do with a person choice to encourage violence...
i've said time and time again that hip hop is used as a scapegoat for bad parenting. Some hip hop songs emulate violence but not all....it's our job as parents to educate children the difference between actuality and entertainment. People are so quick to pass the buck when it comes to social awareness issues....I like artists like Eminem...does that mean i'm going to throw my boyfriend in a trunk and drive off a cliff with him??? of course not.... i think young minds are impressionable and that carries thru into the adult life if they have no one to turn to, to give them the guidance and survival skills they need in life. The average "vilonce" induced hip hop song is penned by an artist who had a tough up bringing, so they felt that was their only outlet.... I think it's ridiculous when all these Bill O'Reily/Don Imus type people get on air saying that all hip hop is about is sex, money, cars, degrading women...these oh so intellectually aware people debate hip hop no differently than the average Y!A RHH hater....I don't think anyones sentences would be over turned, because even if u say ur sister made u commit the crime...u are still going to jail....at the end of the day people will try to debate the fact that hip hop has made their client do "bad things"...but fortunately most jurors and judges dont let that weigh too heavy on their decision of guilt in a case.
Hip Hop itself has nothing to do with violence and misogyny. SOME extremist hip hop artists talk trashy in their songs, encouraging racism (X-Clan), riots and fights (Three 6 Mafia's "Tear the club up", Lil' Jon's crunk **** "bust a ***** head") and misogyny (Too $hort's "biaatch" Eminem's "Kim"). But they can't compromise the whole hip hop culture, or rap music. Rap is basically a reflection of human's life, our emotions, fears, joys, our pains, dreams, wishes and pleasures.

Like others said, people should THINK before ACT because it's a DECISION. A music can't make nobody mess around.

Only weak-minded people would do some ish because some music said so. Others might act smart-*** and act loony or say that it was some music that did they do the mess.
Yes it does encourage violence. same with video games.

it depends how person absorbs it in. Iv been listening to gangsta rap since I was young and used it positively.

but some go rob and kill people.
^^^what is he talking about?(prodgen)smh

Robbing and all these things that supposedly cause these ppl to do these things have been around for ages...Cant start blaming urban societial ills on hip hop thats only been around for 30 to 40 years...Stop playing its a big deal now because folk that dont understand hip hop has kids that glorify everything they see...Y because they think its cool...It always works that way...Its okay long as "Josh" isnt listening to it. Lil Josh gets in trouble tryna be "gangsta" and now hip hop music is a bad influence...smh lmao
I grew up listening hip hop and ragga/bashment. I also grew up watching a lot of action movies. It has an effect on peoples behaviour it is not the root cause though. just like the effect the fashion industy and media has on young girls and females self esteem. We must be careful what we expose ourselves too.
Hip Hop is used as an excuse. Im sure all people that commit crimes do not like hip hop. I saw Snoop dog say the other day no one ever writes about all the good things hip hop artists do but only can comment on the bad..and that is true. I have listened to hip hop since the first rap song came out and have never been violent or commited a crime. Society never look at the person and what they have done..always wanna point blame..oh its hip hop,...oh they watched Kill Bill..oh they played some video game. People need to open their eyes to the real problems.

Do you think Hip Hop has lost it's "Culture?"?

Let me explain what I mean. Back in the day (mid 80's - mid 90's), Hip Hop wasn't just a music form, but a culture, which obviously included the main elements: B-boying, Graffiti, MCing, DJing etc.. but there was also a since of the culture within urban communities. Being "Afrocentric" in fashion and attitude etc.. was very popular during this time which is why you saw a lot of people wearing madallions, growing dreads etc.. in the early 90's.

Now, it seems like because Hip Hop has crossed over, it's become more "corporate" and all about money and crossing over to a pop audience.

So, do you think Hip Hop has lost that whole "culture" mentality and sold out? Or do you still look at modern day Hip Hop as a culture?

For me personally, I'm not feeling like it's a culture anymore.

Do you think Hip Hop has lost it's "Culture?"?real world myspace

No I just think with the changing of time so does things around it and Hip Hop has change and is a ever changing industry....

Do you think Hip Hop has lost it's "Culture?"?myspace top myspace.com

Nah, I still think it's the words of the people
absolutely. hip-hop used to actually be decent. now its just a bunch of black guys screaming.
It can't lose what it never had.
I agree. Hip Hop is to what Yuppie was to rich young white men in the early 80s. Getting as rich as possible, no matter how crappily you do it. I think I gave up on hip hop when "A Bay Bay" came out. WTF? Whats does Bay Bay mean? I listen to Funk nowadays
in a sense ya i think your right back in the day it was about partys, havin fun, chillin, and talkin about hard times

now alot of it is money, sex, drugs, and the whole livin large lifestyle

i mean ya they did sing about that back in the day to but not just about that

i get what you mean finding hip hop music that has more meaning then livin large lifestyle is hard to find these days
I do agree with that statement. It's all about portraying a stupid "as long as the radio stations will play it image" and that's why a lot of it sounds the same now. It's like if you wanna sell you gotta sell out. Feel me?
yes, its garbage now, just the same, ***** *****, hoe, same beat, yawn...
the hip hop culture is universal, it exists worldwide in all kinds of neighborhoods, not just the inner cities or "urban" communites of the United States...ppl are still "afrocentric" in fashion in attitude today, it has just evolved from years ago when some of u were young...but then again, i still see people wearing medallions and growing dreads today
I agree, it used to be "for the people" and now it's like it's "for the record companies" [to get richer]. It has definitely lost it's culture aspect and have become more corporate, but I think that is with a lot of things that blow up and become marketable. I'm not mad at the genre for blowing up, I just wish they could have kept the "quality" and stayed true to Hip Hop's roots, in the process.
Its what you want it to be, it is what you ware willing to pay for. You, as a consumer make it what it is. If you support the realer rappers out there, they will flourish... or if you buy soulja boys ringtone... you get the idea
no i don't think hip hop lost its culture

HIp Hop Moves?

Hey you...

not sure you can learn to really do hip hop like the best :

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AW5RFENVI...

Just nod your head and lean back once in a while...

Good luck
watch save the last dance
youtube.com its da best just type in any dance u want to learn

people usually do it pretty good in there...

ex. 2 step, pop lock and drop it, walk it out, lean with it, soulja boy....etc.
You should watch these movies:

- Step Up

- Stomp The Yard

- Save The Last Dance

- Take the Lead ( possible choice to watch)

- Honey

GOOD LUCK
you could try you tube, and enter breakdancing, or hiphop dance
The best thing to do is lock your self in a room with your ipod or mp3 player on blast. Get in front of the mirror and do what you do until you feel comfortable. Its about having fun don't stress about it. Odds are that everyone at that party will be on the same level as you.
i just watch a ton of music videos and take their moves. i know some guys that are insane at dancing. All they did was watch music videos and stuff. they memorized the stepping from Stomp the Yard just by watching it a bunch.
you tube
well how old are you? I would suggest that if "momma don't know won't even hurt her". But if you are under the age of 17 then I think that you should work with an agreement with your mother.
Best way I learned was to watch videos and practice practice practice. Get videos off the net, mtv, vh1, stuff like that.
that really stinks that you're not allowed to take hip-hop... but I guess thats in your best interest anyway since many hip hop classes are taught by soccer moms/ fitness instructors and they don't really keep up with hip hop dances, etc-- so they would just mess you up in the long run...

anyway, you should go in your room where no one is there to distract you and make sure there is a large mirror where you can see your body and see what you are doing right/wrong.

Watch some of the vids on YouTube and just practice what they are doing, or if you have a tv in your room, just watch some music vids on BET etc... just remember that practice makes perfect!! oh and HAVE FUN!
it dependz wat u look'n 4

I Don't Know About The Best But It Is Pretty Darn Good
1. Kanye West - Stronger

2. Chris Brown - Wall 2 Wall

3. I guess Chamillionaire.
pretty funny video, i like the ending about paris hilton or something.

i like talib kwelis hot thing video more though
i gotta go with ugk's "international players anthem" for the best... talib kweli's new video "hot thing" is pretty damn good too
Yes I must say it is my favourite song of the summer...
Yeah i think so, the video is chamillionaire bringing a new style to rap, its funny yet its a ***** good song even without the video.

I feel that it does count as a genre of music. Don't people use drum loops and whatever else to create an instrumental. Doesn't hip-hop satisfy your emotions no matter what you're feeling? If so, then yes, it can be considered music.

People who hate hip-hop can't defend themselves because all they have to say is...

"It's stupid %26amp; pointless"

"It means nothing"

"It's just people talking"

"Anyone can rhyme two words together"

Get over it people, hip-hop is music. Just accept it, thats all that has to be said. You don't have to like it, just tolerate it, WE tolerate every other genre of music.

Question for hip hop haters and lovers? debate on music?hack into myspace myspace.com

if i can recall correctly the only "main defense" people have for coming into this section bashing the MUSIC is that "rap is crap"
i think it is music because in the good examples of hip hop the beats make a pattern that blends with the rhymes of the vocals so that you can either concentrate on the words meanings or just let the whole track blend together and listen to the sounds and view the voice as an instrument like a guitar and just read the emotion to try to interperate the story yourself in this music.

however, in what sometimes passes for hip hop the beats are just loud heavy bass and horns and the voice is yelling 'i wanna **** yo pussy' the case is that it isnt music and your only choice is to cover your ears and roll on the floor in pain and sadness.
I find hip hop = the art of combining sounds or sequences of notes into harmonious patterns pleasing to the ear and satisfying to the emotions.

How anyone could listen to heavy metal or country is just beyond my understanding. They are not pleasing to the ear nor do they satisfy any kind of emotion.

Hip hop has the most harmonious patterns of all genres of music....in my opinion.
imo, it's impossible to define music...just like it's impossible to define art, nature, science, etc.
No they dont have a point...everything that u just said is part of the music in hip hop...these idiots just hate what they cant profit off and dont understand...dat all

Is hip-hop still alive?

Apart from the 2 new albums from 50 Cent and Kanye West ... nothing much seems to be happening in hiphop?? Or have I just not been keeping up?

If hip-hop is still alive, what's new? What's hot? Is southern hip-hop still big? What about alternative hip-hop?

Is hip-hop still alive?fake myspace

Hip Hop is still alive in my opinion. Because to put it simply there are two types of hip hop. Quality stuff, and crappy stuff. If you like the crappy stuff its alive and living well. If you like the quality stuff it's also alive because there are many quality rappers putting out music, it has just been taking a back seat to the crap rap.

Common's Finding Forever is a hot album. I didn't pick up Talib's new CD yet but it sounds pretty good also. Nas's Hip Hop Is Dead was pretty good. I mean if you look for it, you'll find good music.

Is hip-hop still alive?myspace pics myspace.com

Chamillionaire says- " Hip hop is officially DEAD " %26lt;----------- i hope that answers it!
nothings new hip hop died along with pac in 96

RIP
it didn't die it just went on vacation. Hopefully history repeats itself when it comes to Hip Hop because that classic boom bap era Hip Hop needs to come back . Get that Talib album!
to all honesty...hip hop is dead..the reason why is that what artist today are lacking lyrics and real respect for everything that is hip hop...weather it be breakdancing, turntablism, beat boxing, Graffiti art etc etc....To tell you the truth, the south is whats really killing hip hop..in change of lyrics, they put out nursery rhymes rapping about what car they drive and how much money they got and the girls they get, then take that and put it over loud *** bass filled beats, now im not going to say that the south doesnt have any GOOD rappers out there in my opinion T.I., Ludacris, others included. But to answer the question, its only a matter of opinion. Some people say its dead others think otherwise.Me, myself prefer lyrics and realism over materealistic rhymes
rap is dead and the south is killing it, just like souljah boy that boy done ******* things up, i mean it was dead already but he just finalized it, damn he sucks.
hip hop aint dead it lives underground....and rappers who keep it alive spit a positive image

it did not die with 2 pac,,,we still have nas to me he is way better than pac
i Pretty much Agree With Everything Cool Guy Is Saying

But You Can't single out the South for all the bullshit A wack MC can be from any part of the country. Ain't Mims, Fat Joe, and Ja Rule from New York? Ain't E-40 from the Bay? Ain't I.C.P. from Detroit? It's overzealous to say that the South is 100% responsible for hip-hop's decline. After all, OutKast, Little Brother, Goodie Mob, Geto Boys, etc. are Southern cats that gave us some great music.

I will say this though. All of the Nelly and Lil' Jon wannabes in the South disgrace themselves

So many Southern rappers insist on biting Nelly's and Lil' Jon's crappy music that they give their whole location a bad name. So at the end of the day, it's THEIR fault that everybody thinks of Houston as a candy-paint car, grill-tooth purgatory. It's THEIR fault that everybody thinks of Atlanta as an abyss of fake as* soundalike "pimps" and "thugs" that rhyme worse than Dr. Seuss and dance like little girls with damaged medulla oblongatas. The worse part is that when someone GOOD comes out of H-Town or ATL, they're placed in that wack boxhole
Not dead but maybe slowly dying. I think the old school rappers had a lot more originality than the rappers that are out right now.

Bet is running a special pn Hip-Hop which begins on September 25th. They're supposed to be discussing the state of Hip-Hop. I found out about it here:

if you think hip hop is dead then you aint listening to the right stuff.

Do hip hop audiences appreaciate older rap music?

I know you guys listen to older stuff but most people listen to whats popular now.

This quote is from a hip hop website NBS

"Hip-hop, unlike other genres of music, isn鈥檛 as respectful toward its elders as it should be. While rock acts like Sting and Rolling Stones can tour decades after the heydays of their careers, the likes of LL Cool J and Nas are dismissed as irrelevant just for being having more years under their belt than their younger contemporaries."

Rappers like LL Cool J and Nas are talked about on a regular on here but the quote says they go unnoticed when they don't have new music out.

the market is young and limited, so yes ! all music is appreciated except maybe country !
What happened to Heavy D, Afrika Bambaataa, Kool Moe Dee, and Salt-n-Pepa? or KRS-One? I think quotes right. I listen to LL's old stuff (first 7 albums), but he losing ambition to rap.
Not usually. It would all depend when you started liking Hip Hop and Rap. Compared to the music then and now, the music now is more liked, but their are some oldies out there! It would all depend...
yes as long as its not to weird
Younger audiences should appreciate old school rap because they are always sampling music from the 70's, 80's, and 90's anyway.
i love the old school hip hop as well as the new stuff :)
obviously........
i like old school and new school rap and hip hop
Well I don't know I've never heard of Nas or LL trying to go on tour recently or anything.. I know if either of em came to my hood the concert would sell out.. I lean more towards oldskool anyways.. Stuff I hear today I know I won't be bangin' next year where as I still bump Nas, LL, Tone Loc etc etc and I stll fell em at the same time..

The term hip hop (also spelled "hip-hop" or "hiphop") refers both to a musical (see hip hop music) and cultural genre or movement (hip hop culture) that was developed by African Americans and Latinos predominantly in urban communities over the last quarter-century. Since first emerging in New York City in the seventies, hip hop has grown to encompass not just rapping, but an entire lifestyle that consistently incorporates diverse elements of ethnicity, technology, art and urban life. There are four fundamental elements in hip hop: hip hop dance (notably breakdancing), urban inspired art (notably graffiti), DJing and MCing.

The FALL of hip hop?

Am i the only one who thinks hip hop is on the decline? Record sales ain't doin' what they used to. Used to be everybody could go platium. Now everybody struggling just to go gold. Hip Hop stores gettin' shut down. Us black people just seem to be dumbin' down. And 70% is talkin' bout who beefin' wit who. Since when did everyone care about who the artist was beefin' wit over which song they was makin? And the music is just stupid stuff too. Lib Gloss? Umbrellas? And boyz like Unk and Lil Jon don't do nothin' but yell and repeat. I blame corprate america. The same corprate ameryica that don't car how the music is, how many albulms you sell, or what your name is. The corprate america that only cares how they can get money and how many ringtones you stack up. Also file sharing sites like limewire just scam artist out of their work. If you can't pay for music then you don't need to be listening. Nas albulm hip-hop is dead isn"t true. Hip hop is alive but it's hurt. It just need an ambulance

The FALL of hip hop?music myspace

i agree with you so much hip hop is not officially dead yet, but it needs so much recovering, people who are making these songs with catchy phrases, need to make something new, that will tell others that hip hop is really dying, and maybe everybody else would notice that hip hop is dying and try to do something about it. And its not just the music, its the people, its the way women are degrading themselves, and a re being labled as hoe's, B*****, etc. If we could fix the music, then maybe that will help the people, because a lot of people look up to celebrities. But all i got to say is........Wake up people....Open your eyyes

The FALL of hip hop?emo myspace myspace.com

You would be a wonderful artist as you've described. "Us black people just seem to be dumbin' down"? You just epitomized the exact stereotype you were describing! Yeah, Hip Hop and R%26amp;B are declining, but it doesn't help that idiots are the ones performing!
hip hop is just not like it was

its garbage now it makes me sad
Blame MTV. They made both rap and rock music completely corrupt. I'm just glad there still talented rappers(underground obviously) out there even if they aren't popular.
Us black people are not dumbing down. We haven't gotten (collectively) any smarter than what we were in the 60's.

Hip hop is not dead. Study culture and the cultures of disenfranchised populations
I really do agree with your statement. Hip-Hop is on the decline, mainly in quality. There was a time when Hip-Hop was political and was there to make people think. Today, Hip-Hop is still sending a message... however it's a message of materialism, poor attempts to start a dance craze, lust, and the degradation of women. So say Hip-hop is hurt, but I say it is on life support and it won't be long until someone pulls the plug.
Record sales are low because of the availability of muic on the net.

While the quality of music has gone down overall, a few talented artists remain. But the popularity increases constantly.

The radio is not the medium for good rap music. Its all commercial and a load of BS.
im with u . used to be hip hop was awesome but now it has gotten lame , dont get me wrong there r still some artist that can make good music but overall i believe its on the decline
You can blame Dr. Dre and Eazy E for that.

Long gone are the days of Grandmaster Flash, Run-DMC, De la Soul, Beastie Boys, The Disco Three, etc.

What a shame.
Im in complete agreeance with you. The culprit is is cooperate America. Record executive who know nothing about the music they selling. I also have to blane some of these silly rapers too. They're only in the game for the bucks, and with that they conform. They think they not gonna sell if they don't beef, or talk about hoes and bitches. %26lt;%26lt;%26lt;+++ Right therem thats just the standard man, everybody is saying it, it just repetitive bullsh!t. That why i dont listen to mainstream that much i bump the underground joints.

As for the death of hip hop, as long as few know what it is about, and dont forget about it, it can only be overshadow, but i'll still listen to it because thats what is me.
You have to understand that there really is good music out there you just have to really look for it. Radio stations will just play the songs that will get them listeners and get them paid. they will play those songs over and over. Same with the television stations.

The music business, is just all about the bushinesses now, cuz now that that is all the artist cares about its that money, and not the music. So who in the industry cares about the music???

there are a few good artist you just have to really look for them.

NAS didn't really mean that its Dead, He just wanted to start a discussion on the present state of hip hop and where its going cuz its not going in the right direction.

We the listeners are kinda the blame for it. because its through us that the artists gets the money and the fame. So if we support those REAL artist and speak against the others.

If we all become a part of the solution rather than the problem. Hip hop will make a miraculous recovery. And it would demand respect from everybody as it once did.

Is hip hop culture really all race inclusive?

I heard so many people talk about hip hop culture and community accept people of all different backgrounds and it's all about the style and creativity

Some of these hip hop stations that are comprised of a majority of this certain one race of people seem to denigrate members of a certain other race of people....talking from other people on here from different areas, it seems that it isn't just in my area

so what happened to an all inclusive hip hop culture that focuses more on creativity and ability versus dividing the shiit according to race/ethnicity or whatever?

Of course it isn't.

Is Hip Hop vs. Rock really the subject, or are people just using that title as a cover up for Black

Come on now, we might as well face it. Hip Hop is black oriented and Rock is white oriented. I've seen alot of these questions where people bash the opposite genre but I dont think thats what this is really about. Anybody with common sense knows that a debate over which race is better than the other would be politically and morally wrong. I feel, that people are subconciously using Rock and Hip Hop as a substitute. There's just somethings where the line between Black and Hip Hop gets hazy, the same goes for Rock. I remember comin up I with argue with Rock (white) fans and they would mock me and my boys by saying in a fake black accent, "yo yo yo, my brother whats up?" and do this exaggeratted walk and cross their arms. Me and my boys in return would put on a "surfer boy" accent and say, "Totally dude, righteous man, gnarly waves!" and violently shake our heads while pretending to play a guitar. See what I mean?

Is Hip Hop vs. Rock really the subject, or are people just using that title as a cover up for Black vs. White?band myspace

lol. its ironic, since rock was invented by black people.

Is Hip Hop vs. Rock really the subject, or are people just using that title as a cover up for Black vs. White?celeb myspace myspace.com

HIp hop is majority for black people and that rock trash is for white people
im filipino, and i like both genres. a lot of people are just ignorant nowadays.
yes, except that most young people now like hip hop regardless of race. I am in a rural part of VA, and every other car with kids is thumpin, maybe it is a generational issue. Although some of the rap(videos) make my wife uncomfortable due to the sex and the portrayals of women as bitches or whoes.
i'll be honest, i think alot of white ppl who "hate" rap/hip hop only do so because they see blacks %26amp; other minorities succeeding..if the majority of rappers/hip hop artists were white, i dont think alot of them would have a problem with it....ppl can take it however they want, thats just how i feel
I don't think it is over race. I'm black and I love Boys Like Girls. My friends simply say that it's wake because their not use to it. Not because of the people that made it.
I totally think that is the case but I'm white and I love hip hop and not rock. I just think rock is pointless, it has no meaning to it, but rap (good rap) has heart to it and makes a lot more sense. And no I'm no whiteboy wanna be who tries being all gangsta and listens to 50 cent all day, I just go for what I like and not what others think.
good question too. thats how its gonna be for years to come unless the people start mixing the music up. i love music with rock and rap. and the ppl are white singing it. so i think thats what we need in out culture to break the stereo-type
omg i was thinking the same thing alot of people think that rap is a disgrace towards woman which in some points of veiw i agree and so white people dont like the music maybe becase of the accents and the subjects they choose to sing about and how its kind of innopropriate towards children but its a different story with rock music they sometimes sing about the same things rappers do like butts and sex and stuff like that so i dont know what the diffrence is black or white music is music my history teacher hates rap but love rock and hes white he always says when he hears a rap song he wants to punch someone so i see where your going with this! i agree all the way!
i thought the subject was hip hop vs country??

and i think we all know who wins that battle.......
Rock was invented by black people.

Urban America vs. America maybe
I personally feel in 2007 that this nation and other nations to quit fighting because all it does is cause hurt and anger. There is no love when talk about who's race is better or worse than the other. Music is not the only avenue making millions on the race debait. Think about all of the organizations out there who take in billions of dollars every year because they are saying they are fighting for one race or the other. People like David Duke and Jessie Jackson are not hurting for money and why is that? Because the general masses continue fighting for their seperatist causes. We need to quit listening to people like Duke and Jackson and start listening to our common sense of right and wrong. Hate never does anything but breed more hate. You will never get love when we all continue to falsely believe that race is still a real issue today. Don't get me wrong there are issolated cases today that need to be worked out but for the most part I truly believe men and women of different backgrounds and colors are really starting to get along. If we turned to Duke and Jackson and other groups who continue to throw the race issue at us and pulled together and said enough is enough and America as a whole is done with your groups deviding us as a nation. This nation could be the land of paridise if only we would stop bashing each other because of our differences. I truly believe there comes a time in a nation when we should all rise up and stand as ONE! I believe that time is NOW! Let us learn from history and move on. Remember hate only breeds hate and were there is hate love can never exist! I am sure this is not the answer you wanted or were looking for but I believe it is the ANSWER to a better AMERICA. Good Luck

Dominus Vobiscum

Don
I'd like to think that if both genres are taken as they are for their good and bad traits, they are both equally viable. Hip-hop as a genre generally values a great beat and intelligent lyrics or clever witticisms. This sometimes fosters a lot of arrogant posturing and childish feuds, and highlights the limits imposed by a singular, simple backbeat. A lot of rock artists project a wild and energetic image, and cultivate qualities of youth and vanity in their image. This can lead to a rather dull, generic rock landscape, and the music can seem confused; with tons of overblown guitar thrashing, wild drumming, and completely unglued bass riffing, it all seems rather masturbatory.

However, it doesn't seem to be a black vs. white issue. It's just what type of music you prefer. Many white kids prefer rap, hip-hop, and dance music today, seeing rock as a kind of pointlessly 'hip' dinosaur. And the first to truly synthesize the blues, soul, and country influences into rock and roll were black people. So it doesn't seem to follow that only one certain type of person likes hip-hop, or that one has to like only one or the other. I myself am more of an eclectic, disposed toward bizarre post-punk and avant-garde music. However, I am a fan of jazz, trip-hop, hip-hop, electronic music, blues, and most anything else.

What I appreciate more is the potential that the genres can have when the line is not drawn at "us vs. them". One of my favorite songs is a crossover between dance and rock, "Soon", by My Bloody Valentine. It's got a great backbeat for the main riff, and the verses are walls of guitar and breathy vocals. Portishead, a Bristol trip-hop group, utilizes real-time jazz samples and record scratching to back up a great soulful vocalist. Public Enemy used in-studio band samples to create its dense sound, and vocalist Chuck D. made a great appearance on noise-rockers Sonic Youth's "Kool Thing". It's when the lines between genres are blurred that great things happen.

The real problem isn't with liking certain types of music, but with boiling music and music fans down to trite stereotypes. Not all rock sounds the same, not all hip-hop sounds the same. It takes time to experience a genre and find out the subtleties of its sound. The mainstream image of the hip-hop group, or the rock group, is not all there is. And we certainly shouldn't draw ourselves into narrow camps just because we aren't open-minded enough to listen to someone else's music.
like the person above me said it is a generational issue, you just gotta get it how u live =D
First of all, rock n' roll was created by black people, but that's not the point.

I really don't think it is. Not everything is a race issue. It is possible you know that people could dislike a genre because of the music, not because of the people creating the music. Some rock fans don't like hip-hop because

a) They don't like music without live instruments and musical improvisation (not lyrical).

b) They don't like music where people do not sing.

c) The only hip-hop they hear is hip-hop that, quite frankly, I myself don't like.

So what, if you're white and like hip-hop you can't be racist, but if you don't, you have to be racist? That's too black and white of a statement, and incorrect.

And can black people be racist against black music? Because if so, any black person that doesn't like disco, soul, funk, jazz, rock n' roll, hip-hop blues, etc. is a racist.

Are all people that don't like hip-hop automatically not racist? Of course not, but those are usually the people who have their opinions voiced the loudest, and overshadow those that don't like hip-hop for a different reason.

Thinking that white people don't like hip-hop because they are scared of black people succeeding is a paranoid comment. So, no, they aren't.

But Buttery Biscuits, could it just be that only the ones who don't like hip-hop because they are racist post in the RHH section, and that the ones who don't like it because they don't like the music don't post in there? And the RHH section believes that every rock non-rap fan is racist because the only ones they come in contact with are the racist ones?
Man im glad im not the only one to notice this...Ive brought this up before in a question...and "They" tried to call me a racist...lmao WTF...I had to cut the crap and ask because they have no real reason to hate on hip hop...none of them can justify it...The called me a racist for bring the truth to the table...They proved me right by the responses to the question that I asked...Most of their reasons are that they talk about money too much...lol Since when is that a reason to hate something...Then they say it disrespects women and its about hate...I say its the hate that hate produced...They make all this stuff possible to be played...smh...The real reason is that its invading "their" homes...Their kids are emulating these so called "gangstas"...lol...They also fail to understand that we created Rock and half of all that other music that they listen to...If you think about it when only a few of these artist were getting paid it wasnt a big deal...Now you have a majority of these artist getting bookoo dollars...doing something that they deem as simple and effortless...It has to stop and its too violent...As far as violent where is it? The top albums playing are dance songs...like Soulja boy...not violent...50 aint killing nobody on wax anymore...Kanye never did and these are the top artist...So I cant see what they are talking about. Fabs, Common, 50, Talib are making love songs. Lil Wayne, Baby and Boosie always talking about money and cars... So most of their arguements arent valid. I can see if they came around during the NWA, Death Row, Too Live era screaming this but its not like that anymore. Just here and there. Thats why I agree with you.

Welcome to yahoo and watch what you say...ppl on here real sensitive.
ha im into rock and hiphop. im also asian oriented.lol
such thing exists only in rare cases. frankly, people like me dont like rock cause the lyrics arent good enough and i dont like the sound(u know, sometimes they make ghost sounds and sometimes u cant hear a thing they say , u just hear loud electric guitars!)

and rock lovers dont like hiphop cause they only hear the music in rock so when they hear rap, the music is the same in the whole song and they only like songs with great beats.

gospel.
I completely understand what you are saying, and I can also say that I see this behavior mostly on yahoo answers. As far as the general public outside of YA, I do see some pretty valid points as far as why society it against hip hop. But then I come on here and I see what some people say about hip hop and their arguments are very ignorant, and it sometimes becomes an attack of the hip hop culture, which is predominantly black, as opposed to attacking the content of the songs in question. It's the ignorant people that come to the RHH section, bashing hip hop using the most generalized and stereotypical arguments that one could conjure up, and sometimes based on their words, it does seem like they are using hip hop as a cover up for black's behavior and lifestyles.
It's totally a cover up for Black vs White. I've seen the comments when a White person posts a question like "Rap or Rock?" The deluge of answers leaves no doubt in the readers' minds as to their true feelings on race. It's too bad rockers think that only White people feel emotions and can express them in music. I try to have an open mind by listening to every kind of music there is. Not saying I like it all, but I try...
I know alot of whites who dont even listen to rock. Any one who is cool listens to some hiphop, even me and I love country music. My daughter is white and hip hop is all she listens to. So to answer your Q, No I dont believe it is an underlying cover-up. My husband is black and likes to listen to rock or country rather than hiphop! Imagine that?
finally a good question in this section. well i personally believe the media gives hip hop a bad "rap" (sorry lol) because black people make the music. the media doesnt know anything about hip hop so they only see the negative things. you wont hear them talk about rock music and rock stars having a bad influence on the kids. when a young person shoots somebody, the media blames hip hop for it. i think that rock music doesnt get scrutinized like hip hop because like you mentioned, rock is white oriented (even though blacks created it). i think some white people dont like hip hop because of the medias portrayal of it. they dont understand hip hop, its principles, and where it came from. usually the people that hate on hip hip dont know hip hop (Bill OReilly, John Gibson, Oprah, etc.)

another thing is the media never talks about the violence and degrading of women in movies, video games, and tv. i believe its because black people are not the majority of those who make those things.

i could go on forever on this topic but i think you get the idea.

but there is no reason to argue with rock fans about which genre of music is better. they like what they like and you like what you like. its totally subjective. just ignore those clowns
even though most people who like rap are black and most who like rock are white i think that it becomes a black versus white thing only because we know where we stand when it comes to music. there is so many different categorys that can be counted as black versus white but people only think of them as a race argument because the majority of one race goes for the same thing.

pancakes versus waffles is a perfect example because most white people like pacncakes and most black people like waffles. it just hasn't sprung into a racist thing like rap versus rock has.
you think people are subconsciously using rock and hip hop as means of debate in over which race is better: black or white?

I think this is where Carlos Mencia says "Dee dee dee"

Is Hip Hop vs. Rock really the issue? Or are people using that as cover for the real issue: Black vs

I feel your pain鈥owever鈥?/p>

I don't think it is about race. The new Millennium is a far cry from the 1950's, for example.

All rock originates from the blues - which is as Black as it gets! It is ironic that it takes a band like Living Colour to remind us that rock comes from Black Blues. But when Black Sabbath did it, the world closes its eyes to that fact! Bless Clapton for paying homage to the roots!

That would also mean that any genre that vaguely resembles pop and rock 'n' roll, or even jazz - has a Black origin! Jimmi was/ is the finest representative!

And while I'm at it - electronic music probably has the strongest beat of African origin that I can think of!

I seriously think:

People are sick of modern rap and R %26amp; B because of the quality (unsatisfactory, to put it mildly) of music that mainstream record companies dish out in this Millennium.

Mind you, there is good, modern hip-hop out there - but how many people are exposed to it? I have seen hip-hop DJs recently. Phenomenal (but underground/ unknown)!

As for rock - considering the mainstream choices out there - discerning kids would rather pick rock over rap. Yes, mainstream radio rock isn鈥檛 that great either 鈥?but that brings me to my next point鈥?/p>

But sadly, what most people are unaware of is - hey - popular music isn鈥檛 just American! There is phenomenal World Beat music out there. There is phenomenal European rock music out there!

If only they knew - then perhaps they鈥檒l see that they need not be annoyed by the record company鈥檚 poor choices of music. We can then concentrate on loving good music - instead of warring over bad music (yes, I dare say there is such a thing as 'bad').

The Bad Brains are a punk band where all the members happen to be black. The Blottos too.

i dont think that race is an issue. I totally like hip hop, dude! its righteous!
I don't agree with that at all (maybe because I'm a rocker and not white) but music really does transcend race, in my opinion. I know many diverse races that listen to both genres.

*edit

I honestly don't understand why rockers go to the rap section and vice versa, I think it's just childish to go out of your way to insult others (I'm being a hypocrite cause I always diss emos....). I apologize for their actions, not everyone in the rock and pop section thinks rap sucks.
I think you make a very good argument....you could be right in a sense....though both sides have talented artists of the "opposite" race (Living Colour-Rock; Eminem-Rap), I think sometimes people on both sides fail to appreciate the art in both genres....I'm white, and though I'm rock to my soul for the most part, I hold many Hip-Hop, R %26amp; B, and Rap artists in high regard and love their music. Music of any genre is special in it's own way, and the artists who perform these songs should be given the same amount of respect throughout...after all, not everyone is or could be a musician...it's a special gift and talent not everyone is blessed with.
interesting I like both types of music but prefer rock I don't think it is b/c I'm white it's just what I prefer . There are a lot of meaningful rappers out there just as there are rockers..in addition there are a lot of offensive lyrics in both genres.
I think Rock and Hip Hop/Rap have nothing to do with race. The rock band Living Colour is black. Kid Rock and Emienem are considered Rap. Run DMC did a song with Aerosmith,a rock band. I personally prefer Rock not because I'm white, but because I just like it.
It probible sucks to them because they cannot dance. Some hip hop is good, but the ones which promote violence is not so good. The world has too much violence in it. The love songs are very cool or the hip hop songs about having the bling is very hip.
Well over half of my high school listened to just rap/hip hop. My school was 99% white.
Well...considering the roots of rock and roll, it's not that "black and white".

The comical posturing of the rap artists was just begging for ridicule: all those ludicrous hand gestures, giant clocks, gold jewelry (and teeth), cliches ("yo yo", "1-2-3-kick it!", etc.), guns, hos... It all illiterately boils down to "I got mine's".

The stereotypical rap and hip hop songs glorify violence, drug dealers, misogyny, false bravado, bragging, willful ignorance, and a lack of musicianship. And not just white people have bad things to say about the gangsta rap culture; just read Stanley Crouch.

The history of American music is predominantly the history of Black American music. Most of it is something to be proud of (and most of it is largely unknown and unappreciated by its heirs).

Whom among the crop of narcissistic poseurs is the equal of Louis Armstrong, Miles Davis, Ray Charles, Scott Joplin, Nat Cole, Charlie Parker, Lester Young, Lady Day, etc.?
i think its more of a 12 year old thinking hes being cool issue.

close minded middle schoolers.
Why do African Americans always think its a racist issue? I remember when African Americans thought Michael Vick was being picked on because of being black (What has beating dogs have to do with being racist) I honestly think blacks overuse whites are racist there are white racists but there aren't as many in the modern day. I just like rock it has nothing to do with the people who sing it I cant really dance to rap And they have a curse word within every 10 words.

Honestly I don't have anything against blacks but the way they use whites are racists is sometimes irritating

I really dont think it has anything to do with race Im the only kid in my class who likes rock everyone else goes for rap

(I'm not white or black just to add I'm puerto rican)
That kind of crap might have been acceptable back in the stone age (or modern southern U.S.), but in most places you go thinking that music is limited by your race is mostly frowned upon as being ignorant closed minded, and extreemly conservative, or maybe just stupid i dunno. Let's just admit that ok it's fun to poke fun at ppl who are different / not the majority and that's why we have rediculous stereotypes (like what you said with yo yo brother...), but actual racists are just f***ing morons who can't get over themselves. Those ppl aren't welcome by music lovers or just normal ppl with brains anyways, so.....who realy cares what they might think.

Btw, I totally listen to both genres because genious realy isn't a color know what I mean.
i used to only listen to hip-hop and rap. i thought rock was retarded. now i listen to rock more than anything! so really, its not about the race, its more about hthe culture and the music than about race.
I am not racist, but i don't get into rap. Sure i like some rock , but i like other genres as well. Being a musician (guitarist) has taught me that talent has no limit on race, BUT i'm a little more open minded than your average "White dood Rock Fan" ...that's just me. I can't / won't speak for rock fans of today , cause mostly the new stuff is crap. I can also declare that some black musicians have influenced and inspired me in my musical endeavors, i come from a period where - it doesn't matter what skin color you are , if you're a good musician , i love ya.
it isnt about Black vs White. There are black Metal people like Mike Smith from Suffocation, awesome drummer. Then there are white rappers like Eminem.

Its not about Black vs White.

They are just 2 different genres that people are into, the thing is, when people get into either of the genre, they tend to relate it to the other one saying their's is better, so therefore, it seems like a dispute, which it really isnt. Its just rock lovers saying rap sucks, and rap lovers saying rock sucks.

Does it even matter to you?

let em be, listen to Rock 'n' Roll and be happy and have a great life. Screw everything else

Rock forever my friend

cheers!
I doubt it. It's just the few people on here and another couple in this country. In my school, it's mostly rap and hip hop, with some rock. I can safely say that there are more white people than black people in the school.

Besides, many black people have been in rock bands. White people have been rappers. Plus, rock took great influence from the blues in the beginning, which was ultimately a "black" genre. During the beginning, we had a couple rock 'n' roll artists that were black (Little Richard, Chuck Berry, etc.). The greatest guitarist to ever live--Jimi Hendrix--was black. Living Colour was a band of entirely black people. There is also Lenny Kravitz.
The problem is rap is garbage that requires no knowledge of actual music theory and has no artistic value what so ever. Gee, imagine that thats to hard for you to comprehend so you play the race card as an easy answer, stupid.
its so very untrue. let it go dude. you dont have to ask these sort of questions, coz when u do, you're more less the same as the ones who goes in the hip hop section and rant. music is music, keep racial prejudice out of it. if theres some white people saying hip hop is shite, let them be, they're the ones that are sick. music integrates people, regardless of genre and race, lets help to keep it that way. peace.
I really don't think it's an race issue cos Bad Brains are a punk where all the members are black and I'm black and my best friend is black and we only listen to rock music cos it speaks to us and we get it.Rock music is our world. The people who go into rap section and bash it and vice versa are immature little kids.Who need to grow up.Yea I hate rap but I'm not going into the rap section and bash it.In middle school most of the kids in my school listen to rap it was every race listening to Rap.
I'm not racists, but I dislike rap music. Has nothing to do with what race the performers are.
It's not a black and white issue. It's a culture issue. Hip hop culture was birthed and nurtured in the black community. Black kids grew up listening to it and have a much deeper appreciation and understanding of it as an art form than those who did not grow up in that culture.

The same goes for rock.

Personally, I think people who are so shallow that they feel the need to go bash someone else's musical tastes have unresolved issues that need to be addressed. Music is subjective.
interesting theory, but i wouldnt say so.. not in most cases at least

because any real rocker knows that two of the greatest guitarists of all time, jimi hendrix and bb king, are black

and that rock n roll originated from black peple.

%26amp;, one of the earliest hip-hop groupes, the beastie boys, were all white.

for ignorant people, that could be the case, but anybody who is a true rock or hip hop fan knows better.
yeah, i completely see your point, since hendrix was all rap, and eminem is rock

??????

i have to agree with Jakex; same situation at my school.

I just don't like rap because it's emotionless and all sounds the same.

So yes, it IS rap vs. rock. Musical composition has a lot to do with rock music, not what the artists look like. thank MTV for that.
you're an idiot.

you think people are subconsciously using rock and hip hop as means of debate in over which race is better: black or white?

I see what you mean....you're an idiot
I do not determine whether or not I like a song based on the race of the person singing. I don't quite understand why people have to continue dragging racial points into EVERYTHING. Not every single event is race related. Living Colour is a great rock n roll band of the 80's and you know what, they are black. On the same token, Eminem is white and I never really cared for him. So it is not the individuals, it is the style of music. Some prefer rap, others prefer rock.. and shoot, some even prefer classical!

I think you need to drop the racial quirks and learn to understand that someone enjoying rock music, is simply just that... no more no less. There are racist people out there who will make fun of both black and white people, but music certainly isn't the culprite.
