Rap and hip hop used to be about meaningful things, like the struggles people endured, the problems with society, and ect. Rap back then involved real talent, not just a bunch of stupid sh1t like "hey bey bey". Any dipsh1t can think of stuff like that. How and when did hip hop and rap become all about money and girls, it has ruined hip hop and rap as we know it. For those of you who actually like this current hip hop and rap, you must not know what true hip hop and rap is.
How did rap and hip hop become all about money and girls?myspace ip
nope...he wasn't about that...hip hop was about what was important in that period and guess what? money and girls are the most important things now
How did rap and hip hop become all about money and girls?myspace co myspace.com
the thing is.. all these rappers started getting more and more and more money.. and their creative side diminished... once they got all the luxuries they became satisfied.. therefore the hunger for the creative art in hiphop died. it sux.. i miss old school hip hop- i miss old school rakim.. pete rock and cl smooth.. the digable planets. pharcyde.. BLACK STAR before they went all commercial.. a tribe called quest... epmd...
true hip hop started in the east coast. aint no more hip hop like that. lupe fiasco and kanye tried bringing it back... but it really didn't work.
About after 2001 I'd say, I mean there are still emcees out there still with talent like Pharoahe Monch and J-Live, but the general population would rather listen to ****, yah feel?
^Kanye never tried to bring back real hip-hop, most of his lyrics are gibberish and all he cares about is winning grammys and going platinum.
He's not a good rapper, he's just a good entertainer.
It's the Devil ruining what once was great music.
Your listening to the wrong Rappers. Good Hip Hop is still about meaningful things. At its best it's still the most intellegent music on the American scene. Try Talib Kwalei or Saul Williams, The Roots, Atmosphere, Blue Scholars. Those are just a few of my favs. Saul is very different from anything else, He's totally out there but hes ideas are amazing.
thanks for bringing this issue. Music should give you a feeling when you listen to it. Today's rap and hip hop is a way to collect money. Just like you I miss oldskool rap and hip hop.
I think it started with Puffy...He started that bling rap...And I think it turned into a competition...Everybody had to talk about what they had and how much they are spending...Then Cash Money came out and really put that bling bling bullish into affect...That was the turning point of the genre...Rims started getting outta control...I mean it brought out more business men...But the talent was lost...But rappers always rapped about cars, money and sex...But it wasnt a sole topic for an album...Also back when rap was true...We didnt have 20 versions of the same artist because they were selling...Wackness has the industry on lock...They are only signing artist that are making this nonsense right now...Why because the radio station are brainwashing ppl to believe that the **** is good...So its selling and they want more ppl like them out...The mims, the jocs, and the lil boosies. No variety at all.
Commercalized rap started that. Conscious rap still exists, you still listen to the radio. That's the problem.
I like current hip hop and rap like Common, Lupe, Kanye, and Nas. SOME of Lil Wayne's stuff is good. I think YOU don't know nothing about Hip Hop if you don't know who Common is? And if you do know who he is then you should know that he's not "all about money and girls".
For probably the same reason really crappy, socially offensive horror and slasher films get funded and distributed: they appeal to a segment of society that doesn't want to engage their brains, but would rather excersise prurient interest in the negative. Much the same way tabloid rags are so popular in the supermarkets. Notice that this is primarily an American phenomenon. Americans (and I am one) are not interested in expanding their mind, or taking the time and effort to seriously better themselves. In short, many are lazy, intellectually. This is how something like Rush Limbaugh or Fox News, or gangsta hip-hop can flourish. They appeal to people's need to believe they are "in the loop" when they've never actually involved themselves in the society at large in any real way that would entitle them to be "in the loop." When you have that attitude, you don't get very far in life, and usually end up in a low-paying, or public-relief situation. When that happens, and you see others doing better than you, you become resentful, and yet Americans don't want to blame themselves, so they get angry and blame society. Add to that a style of "music" that glorifies that blame, toss in a few entreprenuers who see an opportunity, along with a technology that allows anyone to burn mass copies of their "music" (in effect, publishing) and the internet, which allows worldwide distribution of said product, and Viola! That's how bad hip-hop becomes so popular.
It glorifies the anger of people who feel they have the right to be angry at a society where, really, everyone is having a tough time.
It's basically a very juvenile, sophomoric form of expression, that puts all the blame for the problems of the artist on society, rather than on the artist himself where it belongs.
It also extols the love of racism, and that's a VERY easy trap to fall into.
YEAH, you're right....
but the world is changing
and the reality is
all that men want is
MONEY %26amp; HO'S.
but there are still good hip hop songs like
KANYE'S SONGS AND COMMON'S SONGS too.

well not all rappers are rappin abt gals , drugs %26amp; cash. Some groups/artists like Lupe Fiasco, DJ Shadow, Ne-Yo(more of r%26amp;b), usher(probably) are trying to bring that old flow back to hip-hop but rappers like vanilla ice(who thought he could actually rap), 50 Cent(violence, drugs,s**), Snoop Dogg(always abt hoes) are ruining hip-hop/rap
ever since they started making money off of it.
i personally love underground hiphop. mostly with a jazzy feel to it. there are still many artists out there that have meaningful, fun, important lyrics backed by great, headnodding beats. you just have to look a little.
