OK whose responsible for this HIP HOP mess????

YO! We need to all band together and figure what we’re going to do about this Hip Hop mess we’re in. I am aching really bad for some REAL HIP HOP! What the South has done to Hip Hop has been a real disappointment. What can we (the people) do to get us out of the rut we’re in?? I know some of you are laughing but I’m serious as a heart attack mayne! Who and how can we switch the focus back on more “conscience” style Hip Hop? I know we got some coo cats like Common, The Roots, Kanye etc.. who are tryin to make a difference and I fully support them all, but we need more focus on them instead of all this AY BAY BAY and Lil Wayne bull s***. Hip Hop is turning to garbage because of the South. How can we get Hip Hop out of this mess and get back to basics??? Cause this s*** I hear on the radio gots to go!!! We can’t afford to have Hip Hop go out like this! For REAL. Hip Hop is the most influential and universal genre in the world, and this is all we can come up with????

First of all, putting the blame on anyone isn't gonna help one bit unless you plan on taking action...which you probably won't.

Second, there is still "conscious hip-hop". So what if it's not on the radio? F**k the radio.

Third, all the wack music isn't coming from the south.

To answer your question, the blame would be the consumers and the record label execs. The consumers because they're the ones supporting the "movement" and buying into the hype. The record execs because they're the ones shining the light on these wack artists. Record execs have a mindset that goes something like "if it ain't broke, don't fix it". That means it's gonna be this way until the consumers get tired of hearing the crap they hear.

Like I said before, just sort out what you like from what you don't like, and stop complaining...unless you plan on taking action of course.

We the people can't do anything because too many artists are catering their music for the radio because major record labels tell them to or their album won't sell. That's why now-a-days the only music to go with is artists signed to independent deals
I totally hear where you’re coming from G Money. It really is a mess. I do however agree with Benovolence, we have to just sort out what we like, apart from what we don’t like. I peronsally think today’s Rap is crap, but I’m not offended by it, nor am I loosing sleep over it because I don’t listen to it. That “AY BAY BAY” stuff doesn’t speak to my generation (Thank God!) so I have nothing to worry about. I don’t listen to anything after about 96”, every now and then there are a few exceptions, like Common, for example (I own and LOVE his CD), or the Roots, some Outkast etc... but you’ll never catch me listening to Lil Wayne! I do understand your frustration though. It’s a shame how such a brilliant culture and genre has to, as you put it, go out like this. You listen to what we had back in the day- ranging from KRS-1 to Rakim to LL to Tupac, Nas, Outkast, A Tribe called Quest, Cypress Hill etc, etc.. And you turn on the radio today and you’re like where the hell did we go wrong??? I am just waiting for something magical to happen, which will change the way Hip Hop is doing things these days. It would be nice to turn on the radio and hear something decent for a change. But like Benovolence says, Fugg the radio.
okay, i do understand why you are frustrated. well there is a difference between Rap and Hip hop. SOME people think that they are the same when they are not. now im a deep hip hop lover, and its my first love. but as others are thinking, i cannot understand why you are frustrated. TO ME the difference between Rap and Hip hop, is that hip hop has creativity. Rap doesnt. all the music you hear on the radio is rap. even thought the south is in control of it, we cannot knock their hustle. see Hip hop to me talked of many things, MC's in hip hop stand out. hip hop talked about the hood, but @ one point they spoke of social awareness. rap lacks creative juices. Rap shows ME that there is consistency. example: ( the lil wayne, T.I.'s, the young jeezy's.)listening to either of these dudes and hearing no creativity. they all talk the same thing. drugs, glorifing the hood, how much money, jewels, etc. because there isnt creativity in rap and now that the south has dominated it, there has been whack rappers in every coast. from the west, to the east, etc. not all rap is supposed to be the same. north, south, east, west and midwest all have different styles. even though i dont like the way rap is going today, i just shy away from it. dont listen to the radio, and as others stated it does have to do with the people. the record companies are in the "if it aint broke, dont fix it" phase. the record companies at the end of the day are putting out the music for profit. and one day the south isnt going to control it and the rap movement passes on. so yo will have to just move away from it, listen to what you believe hip hop is.
You can put the blame on Puff Daddy.
